The Void as a Creative Source: Persistencia del Tiempo
Guided by the concepts of space, limit, time, and the void, Persistencia del tiempo (Persistence of Time) by Pablo Serrano explores the interstitial relationships between chromatic spaces, lines, and textures. Created ex profeso for the Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca (MACO), the project was deeply nourished by an exploration of the archaeological zone of Mitla. By observing the intricate encounters of ancient fretworks and stone structures, Serrano connects historical and anthropological weight with a deeply personal, contemporary artistic language.
The exhibition invites the viewer to look closer—to perceive a hidden world of micro-structures, shapes, and combinations that dictate how a complete piece is read. For Serrano, this exploration goes beyond the canvas; it serves as a metaphor for human relationships, where invisible boundaries melt away, encompass, and connect us.
Influenced by Eastern philosophy, the artist approaches the concept of the void not as a negative absence, but as a vital source of creativity. Just as silence gives meaning to music, Serrano treats the empty space within his paintings as the very element that allows form and color to move, granting the work its ultimate freedom.
